Look What Came Today!

More toys!  Today the postman brought me a new beacon to play with.  This time it's the RadBeacon USB from Radius Networks.  My opinion of Radius Networks thus far has been really positive, so it wasn't surprising to see that the RadBeacon USB was good-to-go right out of the box.  They even print the ProximityUUID, major, and minor on the label for you so you don't have to go fumbling with some app to get it - a really nice touch.  I wish all beacon makers would do that **cough** StickNFind **cough**.  I really dig the fact this thing is USB bus powered - no dead batteries! - but we'll see over time if that's really worth the trade-off in terms of ease-of-placement.

The Slow March to Production

I'm starting the slow march to production... pun not intended (we're still a few days from March).  I'm learning about Android development which so far looks to be pretty much as straight forward as iOS development.  I'm also buying some new toys, too.  These guys came today:

Ready to Take On the World

Got my Nexus 5... it's a beautiful device.  The screen feels positively huge compared to the iPhone 5 I've been using the last 18 months or so.  It reminds me a lot of my old Nexus Galaxy but with LTE and bluer teeth (4.0!).  I've already put it to good use, too, in helping me debug a problem or two even before I get started on my Android build.  I think my Nexus 7 is jealous.

Anyway, here's to new friends!

There's much love between the iPhone 5, the Nexus 5, and Estimote Beacons.

Sneak Peek at Our New Homepage

The excitement builds as we move closer and closer to what will most likely be a stealth launch.  We'll need to gather important metrics to evaluate our scaling plans before we go hog-wild with marketing.  In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at our redesigned homepage.

Nexus 5 Ordered; Android Build to Start Soon

Ordered a Nexus 5 over the weekend which means soon enough I'll be able to start my Android build.  Hopefully it will arrive as soon as I'm buttoning up everything else I'm working on.  The Nexus 5 is courtesy of my mother who seems legitimately excited about this project.  Thanks mom!

GalacticWidgets Website Design

Design and front-endy stuff have never been strong points for me.  I can appreciate a good design when I see one, but I've never been strong with color and style.  Well, this week I'm gonna take a stab at it because anything has to be better than what I've got in place now.
